Although we have lost Malcolm Young in the flesh, he will live on in the amazing work left behind. Forever inspiring others to pick up a guitar and play an AC/DC riff.
The music I’ve coveted for decades has taken another hit with the loss of longtime AC/DC rhythm guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young.
AC/DC hails from Sydney, Australia. Formed in 1973, they boast a checkered past of success and loss that eventually propelled them into world domination. AC/DC has released a whopping 17 studio albums and have sold more than 200 million records worldwide.
There was a time when I listened to nothing but AC/DC. Bon Scott was my drug of choice and my favorite album was 1978’s Powerage. That’s when I first appreciated the greatness of Malcolm Young.
Although Angus was definitely the more visible guitarist, the low volume open cords of Malcolm Young have always been the true backbone of the group. His legacy can be heard throughout the band’s catalogue, a consistency and stamina truly unmatched in modern music.
Time slowed Malcolm down. In 2014 he retired permanently from the band. It was later revealed that he had dementia. A true artist that kept writing riffs and choruses even after he could no longer record or perform live. The consummate musician until the end.
In my mind, a legend you will always be… rest in peace Malcolm Young. \m/
